Tissue Tightening

We offer several options for improving skin laxity, including radiofrequency and ultrasound devices.

Restore Your Skin’s Firmness

What Is Tissue Tightening?

Collagen is responsible for the skin’s elasticity and firmness and as skin ages, internal and external factors cause collagen to break down. The result is an increase in skin laxity, looseness and wrinkles.

Tissue tightening uses ultrasound or radiofrequency energy to heat up the dermal layer of the skin. The delivered heat promotes collagen regrowth and strengthens collagen fibers. This ultimately firms the skin and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Tissue Tightening Options

We offer radiofrequency and ultrasound devices for tissue tightening. The treatments are preventative and have no downtime.

Sofwave™

Sofwave is a no-downtime ultrasound treatment that can improve skin laxity in all skin types in one to two treatments. The device uses unique ultrasound parallel beam technology to generate heat in the mid-dermis while the outer layer of the skin is protected. This heat stimulates healing and replenishment of collagen, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and creates smoother, tighter skin.

Cynosure Pelleve®

Using radiofrequency waves, Pelleve heats the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate new collagen growth, which will tighten the skin. Rather than using laser technology, this device focuses radio wavelengths to make skin look refreshed and younger.

Pelleve treatment is safe for all skin types and has no downtime.

Microneedling with Radiofrequency

Microneedling with radiofrequency is an effective treatment for fine lines, skin tightening and facial rejuvenation. This treatment uses varying needle depth to selectively target radiofrequency energy to precise areas in the skin based on the patient and their concerns. The procedure is minimally invasive and is considered safe and effective for all skin types.

What Will the Procedure Feel Like?

During the treatment, the energy warms the underlying tissue. Sofwave and microneedling with radiofrequency are stronger, deeper heat sensations. Topical numbing cream will be applied before treatment. Pelleve is a gentle warming, so topical anesthetic is not necessary.

Pre-Treatment Instructions

  • Daily use of a sunscreen with SPF 30 and zinc oxide as an active ingredient is recommended.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, be sure to notify your provider before the procedure and he or she will provide a medication that can reduce the likelihood of a breakout.
  • Radiofrequency treatments work best on well-hydrated skin. Drinking ample water (at least eight 8 oz glasses of water a day) and using a hydrating skin care regimen in the weeks before treatment will yield better results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Will I Be Like Afterwards?

The skin may appear flushed a few hours to 48 hours after the treatment. Some patients note an immediate improvement, although this usually dissipates within 24-48 hours, as the true results take weeks to months to achieve. You can apply makeup and sunscreen immediately after Sofwave and Pelleve and return to normal activities. You can apply makeup the day after a microneedling with radiofrequency treatment, but we ask that you not apply it or exercise the remainder of the treatment day.

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

On average, we find the following: Sofwave requires one to two treatments spaced three months apart and then one maintenance treatment annually. Pelleve requires three treatments spaced one month apart and then one maintenance treatment every three to four months. Microneedling with radiofrequency requires three treatments spaced one month apart and then one maintenance treatment every six months.

What Results Can I Expect?

One can expect an increase in the skin’s tightness and an improvement in the overall texture and smoothing of the skin. The results will develop gradually as the collagen remodeling process occurs over a period of six months.
