Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a common condition that causes patches of skin to become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin.

What Is Hyperpigmentation?

Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces excess melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color. It can affect any skin type and is more likely during pregnancy, with older age, or after an injury. Hyperpigmentation can vary from person to person in the way it presents. General signs of the condition include:

  • An overall and suddenly presenting darkening of the skin
  • Splotches of brown or tan, flat patches around the face or chest
  • Dark spots where acne has just healed

Causes of Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is the result of the melanocytes in the skin producing more melanin, the substance that gives color to skin. This can be triggered in a variety of ways. Hormonal fluctuations, such as during pregnancy, can cause the condition.

Some diseases, such as Addison’s disease, and certain prescription drugs can also cause hyperpigmentation. Those with darker complexions are at a higher risk of developing the condition since their skin contains more melanocytes. Excessive sun exposure can also increase hyperpigmentation.

Cosmetic Treatments for Hyperpigmentation

Our team provides several cosmetic options for treating hyperpigmentation. Based on your individual needs, we will determine which treatment is best for you and create a personalized plan.

See below to learn more about our treatment options for hyperpigmentation:

Radiofrequency Microneedling

Microneedling with radiofrequency specifically uses radiofrequency energy to gently heat the deeper layer of skin. Then as the skin grows back with new collagen and elastin, the surface will naturally thicken and tighten.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels are composed of acids that exfoliate dead skin cells and stimulate new skin cells to come to the surface, making your skin appear healthier and more youthful.

DermaSweep

DermaSweep is used to treat a variety of skin issues, including hyperpigmentation, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, scarring and blotchy skin. The treatment is designed to help the natural cell-shedding process by manually removing dead and damaged skin cells from the surface.

DermaPeel

DermaPeel is our signature aesthetic treatment, which involves a combination of two or more exfoliations, ranging from DermaSweep, Dermaplaning and chemical peels. A DermaPeel can be tailored for any skin type and sensitivity.

HydraFacial

Using exfoliants, water jets and vacuum-like suction to open pores, HydraFacial provides deep cleansing while extracting impurities and dead skin cells. Only HydraFacial devices use Vortex Fusion technology to refresh any skin type gently and thoroughly. The treatment works by:

  • Deeply cleansing and exfoliating with a gentle peel to uncover a new layer of skin.
  • Extracting impurities from pores with painless gentle suction.
  • Saturating the skin’s surface with intense moisturizers and nourishing, personalized ingredients.

It is particularly helpful for those with clogged pores, but also creates a healthy glow for those with dry skin, fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and pigmentation.
